Saying Yes – Colour Run

Inspired by Shonda Rhimes and her year of saying “yes”  here is another idea for 2016:

I hadn’t heard of The Color Run until one night, when I was sitting at the airport lounge on my way to the UK and one of my girlfriends posted a picture to her Facebook of her at the finish line.

To be blunt, the picture was stunning.  She was so beautiful and had never looked happier. Considering I have known her for almost 30 years, she is happily married with two children – I have seen her with many happy opportunities. But this was different and I wanted to learn more, so I went to their website and this is what I found.

The Color Run is about four things: (I have edited for post space)

  1. Healthiness – while the event is about having fun, it also focuses on promoting a healthy lifestyle. More than 50% of runners are first time 5k runners and the hope is that they will make headway on becoming a national focused organization, acting as a catalyst for participants to live an active, healthy lifestyle.  (you know I have to love it based on our mutual catalyst goals)
  2. Happiness – Seeing how happy The Color Run has made people, the reward for the organizers is tremendous.  Their tag line of “The Happiest 5K on the planet”, was created after seeing the expression of pure joy from participants.
  3. Individuality – The 5k runners vary in demographics and reasons for running.  There are no official winners or times, everyone is celebrated for their healthy living, accomplishments, no matter why they are running.
  4. Giving Back – As a for-profit, they welcome the opportunity to partner with charities that shine a light on causes they stand for.  To date The Color Run has donated more than $4million to charity. (they partner with charities in all the communities where the runs are held).
